Analysis of China patent application for the pharmaceutical preparations of artemisinins

  • Artemisinins were reported to have the potential efficacy of anticancer, anti-AIDS, etc. , besides antimalaria. Clinical application of current dosage forms has significant drawbacks, i. e. , poor solubility, high first pass effect, low bioavailability, frequent dosing, low bioavailability, high plasmodium recrudescence rate, etc. To overcome these drawbacks, a hot area of research is to develop novel artemisinin dosage forms by applying new preparation technology. Here we summarized the related patents application technology in order to provide helpful references and recommendations on the development of artemisinin dosage forms, patents protection and layout of intellectual properties to the domestic R&D institutes and pharmaceutical manufacturers.
