IDENTIFICATION OF BEIMU FROM ZHANGXIAN AND OTHER COUNTIES IN GANSU PROVINCE

Beimu is an important Chinese traditional drug commonly used in the treatment of cough and as an expectorant.This drug is derived from many species of Fritillaria L.(Liliaceae).The microscopic identification of the bulbs of 14 species with 14 illustrations ard 2 photographs was reported in NO.2, 1979 of this journal. Present paper deals With the classification and identification of some original plants and characteristics of commercial drugs from 4 counties.These species are Fritillaria przewalskii Maxim. ex Fatal., F. przewalskii Maxim. ex Batal. cv. Zhangxian and F. unibracteata Hsiao et K. C. Hsia. The macroscopic and microscopic identifications are described with photographs and illustration.
