Viscosity of Artificial Tears and Its Stability

  • The viscosity of the ophthalmic solution is an important factor which influencs the quality of artificial tears, in this article, four kinds of viscous solution including methylcellulose(MC)、 sodium carboxymethyl cellulose(CMC-Na)、polyvinyl alcohol(PVA) and hydroxypropylmethyl cellulose(HPMC) were tested by such factors as ion strength、pH、preservatives、light、heat and acidity. In most cases, the viscosities were stable except CMCNa solution, which may be depressed as an increase in ion strength.
